A federal inmate’s plans to escape from the Bi-State Justice Building Jail on Monday failed when he landed at the back door of the jail. The escape attempt happened about 3:30 p.m.

HALIFAX — Nova Scotia's Justice Department is investigating a physical altercation between a guard and an inmate at a Halifax-area jail.

A spokeswoman for the department, Donna Chislett, said there was no weapon involved in Friday's incident at the Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside.

Chislett declined further comment on the altercation.

Sayjack's Avatar BRIEF: Riot at old Folsom State Prison sends seven inmates to area hospitals

Aug. 28--A riot that broke out Friday night at the main yard of old Folsom State Prison left seven inmates injured. Officers fired on rioters in an attempt to quell the violence.

The injured inmates were transported to area hospitals, said Luis Patino, a spokesman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. It is unknown how many of those taken to hospitals suffered gunshot wounds, Patino said.

Patino said the fighting broke out about 7 p.m. and involved about 200 inmates. Correctional officers attempting to break up the riot used three blast-dispersion grenades, 20 40mm rubber bullets and fired five gunshots, said Lt. Anthony Gentile, spokesman for Folsom State Prison. It took prison officials about 30 minutes to stop the fighting,... [Read More]

Law enforcement agencies in Washington D.C. have begun to use technology that they say can predict when crimes will be committed and who will commit them, before they actually happen.

The Minority Report like pre-crime software has been developed by Richard Berk, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

Previous incarnations of the software, already being used in Baltimore and... [Read More]
